Give the Village credit for a clear rule. Orland Park contracts with Waste Management, and the Village's own waste page says one bulk item is collected with your weekly pickup, defined as something you would take with you if you moved out. What that rule does not cover is the part that actually hurts. The couch still has to get from the basement to the parkway, and it still has to sit there until 6 a.m. on your collection day. One good Illinois storm in between and you have a soaked couch, twice the weight, sitting in front of your house for another week. If you are in a townhome association, your association may run its own hauler with its own rules, so the Village bulk allowance may not be yours at all.
There is also the arithmetic problem. One bulk item a week means a couch and a loveseat is a two week project. A living room set is a month.

Everything else goes to a transfer station. There is no practical recycling stream for upholstered furniture in Cook County, and the CHaRM drop off center in South Holland that takes electronics for free does not take furniture either. We would rather say that plainly than pretend a stained sofa gets recycled.
If the couch is coming out because of bed bugs, say so when you text. We wrap it in plastic inside the room before it moves, and it rides on the truck last so nothing goes on top of it.
